Swiss Commission for Polar and High Altitude Research

This Commission of the Swiss Academy of Sciences (SCNAT) operates under the egide of the Swiss Academies of Arts and Sciences.

The Commission's tasks are:

  • It serves as a strategic body for the Swiss scientific community in polar and high altitude research and represents its interests nationally.

 

  • It assumes Switzerland's membership in the International Arctic Science Committee (IASC) and in the Scientific Committee on Antarctic Research (SCAR) in the interest of Swiss science and foreign policy, and delegates scientists to organs of these multilateral institutions.

 

  • It is committed to supporting young scientists by involving the Swiss committee of APECS (Association of Polar Early Career Scientists) in its work and by awarding the Prix de Quervain for outstanding Master, PhD or postdoctoral theses.
